Our Picks for New Year’s Eve 2010

Well, chickens, here we are two days away from New Year’s Eve and many of you are still trying to figure out what to do for that evening.  Well, fear not: we here at The Minneapolitan have compiled our list of reccomended ways to ring in 2011 in style.  And without further ado, and in no particular order…

  • Tina & The B Sides and The Melismatics at Fine Line should be a great time.  Two great bands (the 90s line-up of the B Sides, by the way) both sharing the same drummer (in this case Ron Caron of The Melismatics will be on the skins all night).
  • Vega New Year at Minneapolis Marriot City should be fun thanks to the headlining set by Brother Ali.  And speaking of good hip hop…
  • The Doomtree gang will be split up all over town: Sims will be at The 501, while Dessa takes over the Aster Cafe (with wingwoman Aby Wolf in tow – just like her set at The Varsity earlier this year).
  • Speaking of The VarsityMark Mallman‘s caravan of craziness returns with Caroline Smith & The Good Night Sleeps, Red Pens, Koo Koo Kanga Roo, and a special appearance by Mayda.
  • While on the subject of indy rock, Cause‘s line-up of Black Blondie, Communist Daughter, Mystery Palace, and Grant Cutler DJ-ing the night away is a strong gathering to consider.
  • And while many of the DJ’s in town will be working it out, we recommend three: Verb X in The Record Room at First Ave. (one of our personal favorites and one of the most eclectic hip-hop DJs in town), DJ Omari Omari and The Salsa Police at The Loring Pasta Bar (for one of the most fun nights of dancing we’ve had all year), and BOMB at Nick & Eddie’s (the lineup is that strong that we can’t not mention it).

So with New Year’s Eve approaching, we want to hear from you.  What will you be doing?  Who will you be with?  Be one of our intrepid girl reporters (or guhrl reporters) and send us your NYE stories via e-mail (theminneapolitan@gmail.com) or shout out to us at Twitter (@Minneapolitan).
