All Tonight’s Parties

Chickens, we’re in the throes of our epic post about last night’s Recess event at Varsity Theater with a whole bunch of hipsters and DJs. (We haven’t even told you all yet about the mass group dance led by Bobby Kahn of Freaky Deaky in honor of Hal Lovemelt‘s birthday, but we digress….).  But while we’re recovering from our hangover working on that post, let’s discuss tonight’s agenda.

  • One of our favorite DJs, Jake Rudh, will be hosting a tribute to the late Trish Keenan of Broadcast tonight at King’s Wine Bar.
  • Meanwhile at King & I Thai, it’s another installment of Ear Cracklins, a fun evening of strong cocktails and sweet bossa nova (among other things) spun by the incomparable Dean Vaccaro and Joseph Pettinni.  A much-needed respite of civility and warm sounds on this dreary January day.
  • For those that need to shake your ass just a little harder (instead of sashaying it to the Ear Cracklins), then we encourage you to go to Extra Large in The Record Room if only for Mike 2600‘s solid sets and special guest Plain Ole Bill.
  • Speaking of First Ave., For those that can get in, the Trampled by Turtles two day stand (tonight and tomorrow) should be a good show especially with the lovely Caroline Smith & The Good Night Sleeps opening.
  • Speaking of lovely shows, S. Carey and his band blows back into town tonight after being on the road.  Question is, will The Varsity be clean in time after all the hipster funk of last night?
  • Meanwhile, at The 1419 its the Something Else Drone Dinner.  An electronica potluck?  Food from Taste of India?  Sounds amazing.
  • And of course, the Love Power party at the Love Power Church is going to be a) a brilliant affair that people will talk about for months, or b) a biblical mess that people will talk about for months.  With an obscene line up of band and DJs this one’s gonna get nutty.

So where are you going to be tonight, our darling chickens?  Be sure to tweet at us (@Minneapolitan) or e-mail us (TheMinneapolitan@gmail.com) and tell us all about it.
