Republic-ans Invade Seven Corners

Chickens, the past few days have been about things we’ve had to sit on coming back to the limelight.  To wit: we have heard for months that Matty O’Reilly (of the 318 Café and Aster Café fame) had been in talks about opening a new location somewhere in the city.  Well yesterday, City Pages broke the news: Republic (his new concept) will be taking over the Sargent Preston’s space in Seven Corners (right near the beleaguered Southern Theater – but that is a story for another post).  O’Reilly will be moving into the kitchen and offering more substantial fare than at his other popular places and going gastro-pub with the new concept but will still have the intimate homey vibe of the 318 and the Aster.  And it seems he’s bringing in the A Team for this: Rick Guntzel (formerly of Nye’s) will be handling operations, and Sheela Namakkal (formerly of Cake Eater Bakery, formerly of Chicago, and currently kitchen manager at the Aster) will be creating desserts.   Our stomachs wait in eager anticipation.
