The Minneapolitan HIGHLY Recommends New Works 4 Weeks

Chickens!  It’s that time again; where we tell you of something of note in this town and we expect you to go and attend/do it.

Tonight, is the start of Red Eye Theater‘s annual New Works 4 WeeksFestival.  One of the highlights of the theater year, Red Eye’s annual laboratory showcases some of the most daring and original work made by some of the cities most daring and original theater artists.  The festival stars with the annual Works in Progress: a showcase of new works that have been developed by artists in development with The Red Eye Critical Core.  This year’s group includes Heidi Berg, John-Mark Hostetler, Jenny Pennaz, Blake Nellis, and Benjamin & Mandy Kutschied.  The following three weekends are the Isolated Acts, featuring brand new evening-length works by Candy Simmons, Taja Will, and Laura Holway. And while we’re here, let’s raise a glass and cheer Red Eye.  Long considered one of the most innovative theater companies in town, Red Eye has garnered a nationally-renown reputation for developing and premiering genre-defying work.  Artistic Director Steve Busa and Managing Director Miriam Must have developed a loyal following the past 27 years by putting on artistically challenging and rewarding work that has utilized some of the best and brightest in the Twin Cities theater scene. Chickens, we gush because their work is that good.
