Transmission’s Annual John Hughes Night set for August 24

Jake Rudh is on a roll this month.  First with his amazingly fun Friday Night Videos dance party at First Avenue earlier this month, and now it’s time for his annual August tradition.  August 24 will see the return of the annual John Hughes inspired dance party at Club Jäger on Wednesday, August 24.  We don’t need to tell you to be there because every one of you will show up.  Right, chickens? Of course right.

And if you aren’t listening to Jake’s weekly show Thursday nights at 10pm on The Current, then we reserve the right to look askance at you.

Here Comes the #drrtydonutz

Chickens, last night we were alerted to the newest mystery: the debut of Dirty Donuts (@drttydonutz on the Twitters).  It seems they are a guerrilla-style donut delivery gang.  Last night they made their debut by surprising guests outside of both The Turf Club and The Nomad last night, armed with strawberry glazed donuts and maple glazed donuts with bacon bits.  We are intrigued by this new development (and salivating over the idea of donuts late at night!!!).  As always, we will keep you abreast of any further developments.

New Music – Dessa

Chickens, as you know we here at Minneapolitan World Headquarters are HUGE fans of the local hip-hop scene in general and the ladies of said scene in particular.  We are blessed with a glut of amazing and talented women that make the scene spin.  One of our favorites, the lovely and talented Dessa, gave us a gift yesterday; namely a new track (via Soundcloud)! The song, “Palace,” comes from her just-released album Castor, The Twin, which features the tour re-arrangements of songs from her acclaimed album A Badly Drawn Code.

While the track is amazing, the blurb also hinted that the lovely and talented Dessa will be dropping a new album sometime next year!  We of course will keep you abreast of any news on release dates and shows as they become available.

The All Stars Are Here

Chickens, we awoke to some startling news.  The cast of Project Runway All Stars has been announced.  Head over to Tom and Lorenzo‘s for all the details.

While we, the Intrepid Girl (and Gurhl) Reporters shrieked over some cast members (Austin! Gordonna! Mondo!) and questioned some (Anthony? Eliza? Rami? Sweet P again??) and hated some (Kenley) we were saddened to hear that our own Christopher Straub did not make the cut (though there were rumors that he was on the short list).  But no fear; Mr. Straub is too busy getting his collection for Maurice’s ready (and good for him!).

Speaking of dear PR, the l’etoile crew are hosting a weekly viewing party at Thom Pham’s Wondorous Azian Kitchen on Thursday nights in the Caterpillar Lounge.  Be there my dears.

Not-So-Blind Item

Not so much a blind item as a heavily glaucoma-infested one.   Last night we had heard rumblings that there was a contretemps between the Minnesota Fringe Festival and moto-i.  You will recall that moto-i is serving as Fringe central this year for the festival.  Well it seems someone mistakenly double booked the space reserved for the Fringe on Saturday and Sunday night.  We would hate to have been the manager on duty that had to deal with the fury of Fringe czar Robin Gilette and her merry crew.

Speaking of the Fringe, we also heard there’s a little bit of a salacious scandal running around the town.  It seems one of the out-of-town actors not only bares his soul for his show, but has bared it all for a magazine.  Our Intrepid Gurhl Reporters are on the case, sweet chickens.

While we’re on the subject, if you haven’t gone to a Fringe show yet, we simply have to ask the question, “What the hell is wrong with you?!?” We are lucky to host the largest Fringe festival in the USA (not counting Canada, who still beats us) and we encourage you to go out there and explore and see something amazing.  So much so that we want to turn the comment section of this post into show recommendations.  No slamming, chickens; just tell us what was a good show you saw and why.

Get to work, dear chickens!

…and we’re back

Did you miss us?

Oh sweet precious chickens, we apologize for being away so very very long but we’ve been up to our sleeves in travel, weddings, deaths, christenings, fashion shows… heavens it sounds like a season finale of Dynasty as written by Catholics, no?

Anyway, we’re all back.  The Intrepid Girl (and Gurhl) Reporters are on the case. And have we got stories for you chickens.

Stay Tuned…

One Day You’re In…

… the next day you’re having to face down the fury that is Michael Kors.

Dear chickens, as you know we here at Minneapolitan World HQ are devotées of Project Runway and remember all the highs (Jay’s Chrysler Building Dress, Laura’s “For Nuts Only” frock, Leanne vs. Korto in the final 2, etc.), the lows (we’re looking at you Wendy, Santino, and Kenley) to the head-scratching (the dubious eliminations of Chris, Jerell and especially Gordonna).  And as we all know Season 9 is starting in a few weeks.

Well, thanks to Tom and Lorenzo (who, besides being a blogging inspiration to not only the editorial board of this blog but many blogs in this city – imagine the tweetup that would happen – are also one of the foremost blogs on dear PR) released the photos of the twenty (yes, twenty) designers for this season and look who’s there.

That’s right chickens!  Local designer Danielle Everine becomes the fourth designer from our fair city to compete for the title (the other three are of course Katherine Gerdes, Ra’mon Lawrence Coleman, and Christopher Straub). Having been a fan of Danielle’s for a while (one of our Intrepid Girl Reporters nailed it when she described Danielle’s elegantly tailored clothes as “what Katherine Hepburn would wear if she were young today”) we wish her only the best and may God and Tim Gunn be on her side.

And speaking of dear Mr. Straub, you will recall a few months ago that we reported on the rumor that Lifetime was planning on doing another PR All-Star Challenge and that our Christopher was on the short list for the project.  And yet, Lifetime has remained mum.  The last we heard was that it was lensing but that was it.  We would like to say “Watch What Happens,” but that smacks of former networks.
